MAP SITES ON THE INTERNET

A KULTÚR MARKET - numerous Hungarian links, including MAGYARORSZÁG TÉRKÉPEKEN (maps1) or (maps2) of all pre-1921 Hungarian counties (Megye), including Moson(1) or Moson(2), Sopron(1) or Sopron(2), and Vas(1) or Vas(2), the future Burgenland.

Austrian Map Online - online access to detailed official Austrian maps (scales of 1:50.000, 1:200.00 or 1:500.000). For best results, use high-speed connection and screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768; click on "START", enter village name under "Geographischer Name" (you can additionally select the Bundesland (province) from the "Suche in" menu), then press the enter-key. Possible targets are shown under "Suchergebnisse". Double click on the village name you think is the right one - details (exact geographic location) will be shown in a pop-up window; click on "Fenster schließen" (close window) or "Karte zeigen" (show map). Omni Resources - large interesting selection of maps; Topographic Quadrangle Map 1:50,000 (Item 64-1452); legend is in German but you can understand that they show cities, roads, bridges, churches, castles, etc. They also show smaller villages that are not on travel maps. From the homepage, go to the On-line Map Catalog. From there, go to International Maps. Select Austria. Scroll down to Austria Topographic Quadrangle Maps (catalog number of 16-1452). Osztrák-Magyar Monarchia vármegyéi(1910) - excellent maps of the counties of the former Kingdom of Hungary as of 1910, including Vas, Sopron, Moson, and Vesprem; all village names in Hungarian only; large maps; require considerable computer resources

Bremen Passenger Lists 1920-1939 - all lists from 1875 - 1908 older than 3 years were destroyed due to lack of space in the Bremen Archives. With the exception of 3017 passenger lists for the years 1920 - 1939, all other lists were lost in World War II. These saved lists had been stowed away in a salt mine at Bernburg an der Saale in 1942 and are now available online.
