WELCOME TO THE BURGENLAND GENEALOGY SOURCE

The Province of Burgenland, located in the southeast of Austria, was formed from parts of the Hungarian counties (Megye) of Vas, Sopron and Moson following WW-I. While it is Austria's youngest province, it can claim to be one of the oldest also, as it has a fascinating history worthy of being studied in detail. The population is comprised mainly of people of Germanic, Croatian and Hungarian descent. From the 1850's through the 1950's, many inhabitants emigrated to the United States, Canada, South America and elsewhere. Our primary purpose is to develop genealogical data concerning those emigrants. We can help locate Burgenland villages through their Hungarian, German, and Croatian names, identify parishes and locations of municipal offices, and identify available church and civil records. In our monthly newsletter, we publish family names and data appearing in old records plus items and articles of Burgenland historical and cultural interest. We link researchers through an e-mail network. We engage actively in uncovering records available for genealogical research. Molly Ann (Beck) Berghold,
WIFE OF AND LIGHT OF HIS LIFE TO BB FOUNDER GERRY BERGHOLD,
DIED TUESDAY, MAY 27, 2008.

OBITUARY: MOLLY ANN BERGHOLD

Molly Ann (Beck) Berghold, age 79, of Winchester, died Tuesday, May 27, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Hellertown, PA, the daughter of the late John Raub Beck and Ethel Irene Silfies.

She was a graduate of Fountain Hill High School class of 1946 and had been a buyer for Hess Brothers Department Store, Allentown, PA, prior to her marriage. Mrs. Berghold and her husband moved to Winchester in 1985 from Wilmington, DE, upon her husband's retirement from the Du Pont Company. She was an ardent collector of antique glass and was an active member of various glass clubs including the Winchester Glasshoppers.

A member of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winchester, she was active in church affairs. She is survived by her husband, Gerald J. Berghold. The Bergholds were married in Packer Memorial Chapel, Lehigh University, in 1954 and would have soon celebrated their 55th anniversary. They have two daughters, Jan M. Carr of Lester, PA, Kim L. Labiak of Mountville, PA, and a son Chris B. Berghold, Winchester. In addition, she leaves six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Ruby Garcia of Myrtle Beach, SC, Marcia Fry of Quakertown, PA, and Jane Zimmerman of Marion, SC.

A memorial service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, date to be announced, with Pastors Rev. D. Rhodes Woolly, Rev. Scott Maxwell and Rev. Dr. Conrad Christianson officiating. Inurnment at Shenandoah Memorial Cemetery will be private. Friends may call at any time. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church Mission Expansion Fund, 2077 North Frederick Pike, Winchester, VA 22603.
